Diamond Heart

Hello Sucreños!!

Welcome back to Songs Teach You, the section that encourages you to strengthen your communicative skills through songs. In this opportunity, I want to recommend you a song called “Diamond Heart” by Alan Walker ft. Sophia Somajo, which was launched back in 2018. In this track, the composer brings us a very deep and sentimental song that shows a brokenhearted woman who expresses all her “grief” after losing her love and all the things she would be able to do if she were stronger. Furthermore, musically speaking, this song has a lot to offer: from a splendid musical arrangement to a powerful and beautiful melody that inspires the listener to feel the gloom. In fact, there are very smart musical decisions being made here, which make the track a real hit. As an author said once: “Emotions are powerful and sometimes, instead of crying, we need to dance through them.”

In this installment, I am going to show you two different versions of the song: the original one and a remix. Both versions will help you improve your fluency substantially. It’s highly recommended to start practicing with the original version. After you master it, you can jump in with both feet and start practicing with the remix. I really hope this song turns out to be very helpful for you and you take all the advantage of it. Enjoy!

lyric

"Diamond Heart"
(By Alan Walker ft. Sophia Somajo)

Hello, sweet grief

I know you will be the death of me

Feel like the morning after ecstasy

I am drowning in an endless sea

Hello, old friend

Here's the misery that knows no end

So I'm doing everything I can

To make sure I never love again

I wish that I did not know

Where all broken lovers go

I wish that my heart was made of stone

Yeah, if I was bulletproof

I'd love you black and blue

If I was solid like a jewel

If I had a diamond heart

Oh, oh

I'd give you all my love

If I was unbreakable

If I had a diamond heart

Oh, oh

You could shoot me with a gun of gold

If I was unbreakable

I'd walk straight through the bullet

Bend like a tulip

Blue-eyed and foolish

Never mind the bruises

Into the fire

Breakin' through the wires

Give you all I've got

(If I had a diamond heart)

I'd walk straight through the dagger

Never break the pattern

Diamonds don't shatter

Beautiful and battered

Into the poison

Cry you an ocean

Give you all I've got

Goodbye, so long

I don't know if this is right or wrong

Am I giving up where I belong?

'Cause every station is playing our song

Goodbye, my love

You are everything my dreams made of

You'll be Prince and I'm the crying dove

If I only were unbreakable

I wish that I did not know

Where all broken lovers go

I wish that my heart was made of stone

Yeah, if I was bulletproof

I'd love you black and blue

If I was solid like a jewel

If I had a diamond heart

Oh, oh

I'd give you all my love

If I was unbreakable

If I had a diamond heart

Oh, oh

You can shoot me with a gun of gold

If I was unbreakable

I'd walk straight through the bullet

Bend like a tulip

Blue-eyed and foolish

Never mind the bruises

Into the fire

Breakin' through the wires

Give you all I've got

(If I had a diamond heart)

I'd walk straight through the dagger

Never break the pattern

Diamonds don't shatter

Beautiful and battered

Into the poison

Cry you an ocean

Give you all I've got

(If I had a diamond heart)

ACTIVITIES

  1. Highlight with green color the pronunciation issues (not only vocabulary but groups of words with difficult pronunciation for you).

  2. Focus on practicing those parts in which you have difficulties to pronounce fluently. It’s recommended to do it first with the slowest song. If it’s still difficult, stop the music and do it even slower until you master the verse. Then continue with the next one until you can pronounce the whole song without any problem.

  3. Now take the plunge and practice with the faster song. If you have difficulties, DON’T GIVE UP! It’s just a matter of repeating over and over again until you master it.

  4. Highlight all the unknown words with red color and look for their meanings until you understand the message of the lyrics. Do NOT translate it!

  5. Do you want to practice Third Conditional? What would you do if you had a diamond heart?
